Aoife Billings

Aoife Billings (she/her) is a Melbourne based visual-artist from a textiles and filmmaking background. Since graduating from RMIT with a Bachelor of Fashion Design and Technology in 2019, her mediums have expanded into oil painting and ceramics.

In her practice, Aoife explores her Irish culture, community based learning, and more recently, what it means to be a hearing impaired young person.

At the age of sixteen, she began the collective Bats of Leisure with her brother Aaron Billings. A practice of creating hand-made embroidered garments, persisted into her early 20s, alongside a practice of film-making. ‘Wilderness’ a fashion film, co-directed by Aoife for a Bats of Leisure collection, was a finalist for Melbourne Fashion Festival’s ‘Fashion on Film’ competition in 2014.
